Working with Wales’ tourism sector to prepare for registration

Since joining the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA) 7 months ago, I’ve been working with WRA colleagues to help accommodation providers prepare for a significant change. From autumn 2026, in accordance with Welsh Government policy, anyone who takes bookings for overnight stays in Wales will need to register with the WRA.

Our focus has been on working with accommodation providers, tourism bodies and local authorities to make sure the sector understands what’s coming and to help us shape the service.

We have made significant progress over the past 2 weeks, particularly in building new routes through the visitor accommodation registration service. We are now very close to launching an external environment for users to test the service.

Building the ‘simple route’ for visitor accommodation registration

We’ve reached a significant milestone in building the visitor accommodation registration service. We have now completed the end-to-end ‘simple route’ journey. For the first time, a user can move through the service from start to finish. They can enter their details, add their premises, confirm the information and receive a registration number.

The Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA) is creating a new online registration service for all visitor accommodation providers who operate in Wales. The Visitor Accommodation (Register and Levy) (Wales) Act became law in September 2025. From autumn 2026, anyone who charges visitors for overnight stays in Wales will need to register with us.
