Building a new service is about far more than what you see on screen.

From autumn 2026, visitor accommodation providers in Wales will need to register with the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA). Since the WRA launched in 2018, our approach has always been to support people to get things right first time and we’re applying the same approach to registration. We are working hard to make sure that when registration opens, you have everything you need to complete the process simply, correctly and confidently.

From autumn 2026, visitor accommodation providers in Wales will need to register with the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA). When you complete your registration, you will receive a unique 8 digit number. Designing that number has been more involved than you might expect.

Since joining the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA) 7 months ago, I’ve been working with WRA colleagues to help accommodation providers prepare for a significant change. From autumn 2026, in accordance with Welsh Government policy, anyone who takes bookings for overnight stays in Wales will need to register with the WRA.

Our focus has been on working with accommodation providers, tourism bodies and local authorities to make sure the sector understands what’s coming and to help us shape the service.

We have made significant progress over the past 2 weeks, particularly in building new routes through the visitor accommodation registration service. We are now very close to launching an external environment for users to test the service.

We’ve reached a significant milestone in building the visitor accommodation registration service. We have now completed the end-to-end ‘simple route’ journey. For the first time, a user can move through the service from start to finish. They can enter their details, add their premises, confirm the information and receive a registration number.

Every 2 weeks, we share what our team has been working on. We’re building the new service for visitor accommodation providers in Wales to register with the WRA.

The team works in 2-week sprints, where we focus on achieving a specific goal. This approach allows us to continuously improve the service and adapt our plans based on what we learn along the way.
